Toast with spaghetti and
tomato sauce for breakfast makes a hard man humble.
-
We have a hard climb and a
long stretch, about 80 kilometers of road, without any services
ahead of us today.
-
We start the climb to Lindis
Pass (965m).
-
The climb turns out to be
easier than we thought.
-
-
From the pass we have a nice
downhill for a while.
-
The wind changes direction
several times.
-
Some of the landscape looks
like in Spain.
-
After another small hill,
Cluden Hill, we are in Tarras General Store and at Country Coffee
Shop for tuna panini and cafe latte.
-
We have 30 more kilometers
to Cromwell, which is all downhill past a number of vineyards.
-
We are in town around 6pm.
and decide to settle at Carrick Lodge Motel for NZ$135. The place
is run by a former teacher couple. It may seem a bit over-prized,
but we get awesome service.
-
The host, Rob takes us to
town for dinner, and explains a piece of Cromwell history as we
go.
-
The
old town center had to be removed since after building the Clyde
dam in 1990's to control the flow of two rivers , Clutha
and Kawarau, the old commercial
district was drowned.
-
Sunset over Lake Dunstan
(which was artificially formed on the Clutha River as a results of
the construction of the dam)
Today we ride 104.48K in
