Spring has Sprung

We celebrated the Spring equinox at Maison Fantin Latour with another chef Stéphane Froidevaux’s creative dinner “La Table Gastronomique,” this time inspired by herbs and plants that he has already been able to harvest this Spring. In our earlier post from January I mentioned that he does not only grow his menu ingredients in his garden, but also harvests wild plants and herbs in the Southern Alps.

This time chef Froidevaux’s offer consisted of several courses, all but one plant based — I don’t remember exactly how many, since we had several appetizers and some “amuse-bouches” between the courses. The only non-vegetarian dish featured fish native to Lac Léman (Lake Geneva to anglophones). The presentation was unimpressive, but that was one tender and succulent fish that we have ever had!

When brought to the table each dish was introduced by the servers briefly describing their main ingredients and where they were sourced from. Unfortunately, this was done so quickly that we could not memorize practically anything, so I can’t say much about the dishes other than they were delicious and many, and quite heavy actually. Enjoy the pictures!

While in Grenoble, we could not and did not want to skip the early morning run to La Bastille hill. While the city was busy and lively in the afternoon when we arrived the day before, now in the morning it was quiet and peaceful, hardly a soul on its streets at 7am. However, it did not take long until the runners and walkers started to show up on the trail up to the hill. When we turned back down, it was almost crowded. This was the   our lovely mini-vacation in Grenoble. And by the way, the breakfast of  1924 Hotel was quite good and versatile.
