It’s a new bathroom!

I hope this was the last bathroom renovation we ever do. Not that it was very hard for us, but the cleaning afterwards is just too much work. This time we were much wiser with regard to many things, especially protecting the furniture, books, clothes from dust — the fine particles are very efficient in infiltrating everywhere!

We started the project in September 2021 by asking quotes from two contractors, both of whom visited our place to take measurements and sent us a quote together with their plan. After asking them to make a couple of changes in their plans, we never heard back from one of them. We didn’t really mind since the other guy had received very good reviews, and seemed very competent and professional. We are very happy with both the outcome of the renovation and how his team worked; they were punctual and communicated really well with us.

In the end of November we chose the furniture and in the end of December the timeline for the renovation was set to two and a half weeks starting on June 20, 2022.  By early March the furniture, toilet,  and plumbing (faucets and the shower colon) had been ordered. In mid-March we chose the floor and wall tiles. The works started promptly on June 20, and were finished on July 1. As of today, the only thing still missing is the heating element/towel rack.

Like our old bathroom in our apartment in Grenoble, here we also had both a bath tub and shower cabin, and very bad lights. Toilet was in a separate room with a small wash basin. Pictures of the old one:

Just like in Grenoble, we wanted get rid of both the bath tub and shower cabin — and have a Roman shower (la douche Italienne) instead — and also have the toilet in the same space with the rest of the bathroom. This latter just meant taking down the wall between the former toilet and the bathroom, and constructing a wall where the toilet door used to be. Pictures of the new one (I have not put the accessories etc. back in their place yet):

As the color scheme changed quite a bit, I think we need to go on and buy some new towels  to our new bathroom!
