The morning starts sunny in Cardrona, but some rain is forecast for the afternoon.

We have head wind, but downhill all the way to Wanaka.

After struggling a number of steep hills up and down we reach stormy Lake Hawea.

We stop for lunch at Sailz Cafe at Lake Hawea.

Right on!

Munching our lunch with some local beer, we envision a fierce struggle north on the highway #6.

We give it a try ...

We hardly make it across the bridge back to the highway, and ride about two kilometers north before turning back. The rain hammers our faces so that it hurts. So, our destiny is to return to Lake Hawea and find a place to stay overnight.

We get a posh two-story room at Lake Hawea Motor Inn for NZ$140. Afternoon weather is dreary, and there is nothing much to do in the hotel but sleep, do laundry, and eat.
