This is our second day off
from riding. We have booked a tour to Doubtful Sound.
-
After a long wait we board a
small cruise boat that takes us to the tip of the West Arm of
Manapouri Lake.
-
-
Once ashore, we board a bus
that takes us to the underground hydroelectric power station.
-
Then the bus takes us over
Wilmot Pass,
-
and to Doubtful Sound, where
we board another cruise boat and start a three-hour cruise towards
the Tasman Sea.
-
Marks of a year old
treefall.
-
The world is rather grey
this morning.
-
-
Unfortunately, we don't get
to see much wildlife.
-
Once we get nearer to the
Tasman Sea, the waves grow larger and the wind stronger.
-
-
-
The boat even
stops and turns the engines off for several minutes for us to
admire and appreciate the silence of the Sound. Unfortunately,
there is not much to enjoy because of the constant rain hammering
the water and the deck.
-
At another spot, plastic
cups are handed out and the tourists get a chance to taste the
water dripping down from the rocks.
-
The sun almost comes out as
we head back to Manapouri Lake.
-
We are back in
Te Anau by dinner time. We have salad Caprese and a vegetable soup
for starters, and share a venison goulash for an entree at La
Dolce Vita, which, despite its Italian owner/wait staff feels a
bit phony, and the food is not spectacular.
