The morning
starts rainy and grey in Abisko Lodge Apartments and Campground.
-
We have breakfast at nearby
coffee house that also serves as an antique shop.
-
Grey is pretty much the
color of Methven.
-
We make quite a few stops on
our way. First for coffee once we reach the main highway [72],
then to buy matches and camping gas at Mt Somers General Store,
and finally for sandwiches and cappuccino at Udder Dairy in
Mayfield.
-
Today's ride is pretty dull.
The road crosses mainly farm land, but on the other hand it is
straight, very low in traffic, and practically flat, and we have
mostly tailwind.
Again we see quite a few
road kills -- mostly rabbits, cats, and possums(?)
-
This self-contained unit at
Geraldine Holiday Park campground costs us NZ$75. We also reserve
an accommodation in Lake Tekapo for the following night.
The campground rules
prohibits gang signs, and the entry in a face covering motorcycle
helmet.
-
We have dinner at Restaurant
Taste, Geraldine. As an appetizer we have smoked salmon with local
Riesling (somewhat sweet) and Gewurstraminer, and for main courses
beef ribeye (Tomi) and lamb with potato and pumpkin dauphinoise
(Tei), with Main Divide Pinot Noir from Canterbury.
Today we ride 76.66K in
4:37'39 (avg 16.5kph, max 31.7kph)
