Running up that hill — all 1251 stairs

Like I mentioned in the earlier post, I’ve taken the habit of climbing the stairs up to La Bastille a few times a week. I am not the only one. The grenoblois love that hill — it is a their popular exercise/passtime to run, walk, ride, or climb the stairs up to that hill no matter the time of the day. In the early morning we see less people going up, but during the week at lunch time the trail can be quite crowded.

Just recently we noticed that someone has marked the step counts to the stairs — there are 1251 steps up! We’ve also noticed that there are some regulars, whom we mostly see in the early mornings: there is a tall guy, a former speed skater, now probably in his sixties, doing sideway lunges up the hill. There is this small-built, friendly faced elderly gentleman walking up very slowly with the help of two hiking poles. On Thrusday morning there are small groups of high school students huffing and puffing up, when we are already coming down.
Spruce is taking up space from the stairs.
