It’s a new kitchen!

Our kitchen renovation was finished two days ago! When we bought the house, we were quite okay with the looks  of the kitchen and the bathroom, but also sure that sooner or later we will completely renovate both. We started with the kitchen project since it seemed simpler; it only required replacement of the furniture whereas the bathroom (and WC) requires a complete reorganization. In April we asked quotes from three local kitchen design stores. We ended up accepting the least expensive one, mainly because it was the only one with whom we did not need to design the kitchen ourselves, like with the other two, but their designer proposed us a new design to which we made a couple of small changes: we chose a darker worktop and more functional interior to a couple of cabinets, and added a power outlet to the island. Below are some photos of our former kitchen, and the plan of the space that we measured and drew for the designer, since she could not visit us due to the lockdown restrictions. It was amazing how well it went and that they actually trusted our measurements!

The new kitchen was delivered on Tuesday this week, and the assemblers came in on Wednesday, first to take the old kitchen out and then to assemble the new one. The former took them just a couple of hours, and the latter one and a half days, which was one day less than they had expected! The two guys were sympa and efficient, and the older one got a  month’s worth of exercise carrying stuff up and down the stairs to our kitchen on the second floor. Here are some pictures I took during the works.

The organization of the new kitchen is not very different from the old one — the space simply does not allow much variation — but the island is less massive and the interiors of the cabinets and drawers more functional: the old kitchen only had very large drawers that wasted a lot of space, and their surface was falling off at several places. The new hood is also more elegant than the old one.  The old backsplash was made of glass that mirrored the mountains from the opposite windows nicely, but we noticed that the shiny new upper cabinets do the same 🙂
