Happy 22 together

We had a superb dinner, La Table Gastronomique, yesterday at Grenoble’s only Michelin star restaurant Maison Fantin Latour to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have dined there before; once at our own expense and a few times when Tomi’s employer has organized their year-end/Christmas celebration there. And during the COVID-19 lockdown the restaurant offered ready made meal sets for carry-out to be cooked or finished at home. We took advantage of these offers several times. All these experiences were outstanding.

When we found out in October that the chef Stéphane Froidevaux was offering gift cards for two-person four-course dinners with drinks at half price in January, we immediately thought it will be a great way to celebrate our upcoming 22nd anniversary. These dinners were only available mid-week from Tuesday to Thursday, so we booked ours on the day following our anniversary (12.1.).

Chef Froidevaux is well known for his creative use of herbs — either wild or ones he cultivates in his restaurant garden — and infusions with complex flavor profiles. Yesterday’s dinner was an amazing parade of interesting flavor combinations.

It was also nice to be back in Grenoble after a long while.

Unfortunately we did not take any notes about the dishes, so all you have is to enjoy the pictures. Overall the dinner was a great experience with just a couple of minuses. Since all the tables were occupied, the servers had to do a lot of running around to keep all the tables promptly served, which made the atmosphere somewhat restless. Also the restaurant was quite brightly lit.

Finally, when leaving we learned that we had to pay ridiculous 9€ for bottled water, while tap water in this region is perfectly drinkable, actually very good, and is commonly served in restaurants, and also 4.5€ for each of the coffees. They never informed us about these charges when we ordered. Despite these it was a nice night!

A  bientôt, Grenoble!
