(October 21, 2018) Sometimes, way too often here actually, it happens that the weather turns out nothing like it was forecast (and only after the fact the forecast is updated to match the reality!). This past Sunday was supposed to be all sunshine, but we only saw a glimpse of the Sun during the lunch break on the top of Aiguille de Chalais (1089m). Rest of the day the valley of Isère and the Chartreuse mountains were covered in strange fog or cloud. Most of the hike was in the forest so there were no splendid views to enjoy, but we almost could not see the Vercors range from the fog at the viewing platform on Rocher de Bellevue.
The forest walk was nice with all its 19.4 kilometers and 1611 meters of ascent and descent from Fontanil-Cornillon (the final stop of the Tram E from town) to the monastery of Chalais and to the Aiguille of Chalais.
We found wild mint growing on the roadside.
