Low hanging clouds above Grenoble this morning made us feel literally locked down. So, we tried to find the closest hiking destination with a chance to get above the clouds. We drove to Revel on Belledonne at about 700 meters, but we were still in the clouds. We continued to Lac de Freydières at about 1100 meters, but the clouds were still reaching us, although we could see the sun and some blue sky. It was chilly with -1°C.
We started hiking up towards Lac de Crozet (1974m), but because of the time limit we conscientious Finns turned back since we knew we could not make it within the government imposed time limit. The French hikers, who were numerous, didn’t care. We were back at home in four hours 🙂
From 1500 meters we could see the heavy cloud mattress covering Grenoble and the Gresivaudan valley. When back down at Lac de Freydières it was already in clouds and it was very cold. The lake was actually frozen and people were walking on the ice.
