Day 5 - From Washington to Vincennes

Our day trips grow shorter and shorter as the head-wind grows stronger and stronger. The landscape also becomes flatter. We cross the west fork of White River again and arrive at Vincennes, the oldest town in Indiana, well before noon. Actually, it takes us longer to find a place to stay in the town than it took to reach Vincennes from Washington. Our only realistic option, after trying to contact couple of Bed and Breakfast places, is Relax Inn, since the B&B's are either closed (for sale) or do not answer our calls.

Finding a place for lunch is even harder. We almost think we are lucky when we pull over by Market Street Station, since we see someone inside the restaurant. Someone comes out to disappoint us: the place is closed on Sundays. Still, she invites us in for a glass of water, and soon for few more beers. It is the only place in the town that serves dark beer on tap.

During the hours we keep her company as she is cleaning the restaurant we learn quite a bit about life in Vincennes as well as about mortuary business which she is into. She really saves our day: besides the beer she gives us tickets to the local theater's evening show, since she cannot attend it. Old Town Players performs the musical Annie. We are the only outsiders in the audience, everyone else is somehow related to someone on the stage.
