It has been snowing on the mountains recently. Even if the official start of the winter season is about one month away at most of the ski resorts, Autrans on the Vercors declared on Friday that they will open the Nordic skiing tracks for the weekend. We had already decided to go snowshoeing on Saturday when it was expected to be beautiful weather, so that’s what we did. Grenoble was under a thick fog in the morning but after climbing to about 1000 meters we started to see some blue sky. The valley of Lans-en-Vercors was also still in clouds but once in Autrans, all we saw was the clear blue sky.
We followed the black snowshoeing track (très difficile) from the parking lot to Gève. Probably one or two people had walked the track before us so we were practically wading in a fluffy snow to relatively steep uphill. The total distance was not more than 6 kilometers, but we managed to spend two and a half hours on it, but only an hour coming back downhill on the road.
