Finally we managed to hike around Néron; we’ve made several attempts before, but all of them were compromised by either wrong route choices, late start (getting too hungry too early!), fallen apart hiking boots, or something else.
Our legs were still pretty sore after the Saturday’s recce run, but we boldly climbed the very steep ascent from 215 to 580 meters. Some rain was forecast for the afternoon, so we tried to keep up the pace.
We took some unmarked paths, and found this strange structure, the function of which we realized later on …
We found a tunnel on a narrow forest trail and did not quite understand who would construct a tunnel for such an insignificant trail we were on. We by-passed the tunnel but saw some horse riders go through.
Then we met this abandoned building in the middle of nowhere.
When we approached the civilization we realized that these structures are built to stop rockfalls from Néron, especially in the areas with human habitation underneath. Or that was our guess.
By the way, the rain never came.
