L’inondation

The water level in the river Isère is very high after yesterday’s full day of rain, and more rain is forecast for this afternoon. In the middle picture below, there is a street totally submerged on the left side of the river. The water is thick brown and full of debris, there are even whole trees gushing down with the stream.

The water had flooded pedestrian paths and cellars of the nearby houses. Some people take creative measures to pass the flooded sections.

Due to relatively warm weather and a lot of rain, it is very green here now.

Grenoble’s efforts to bank the west (town) side of the river has paid off. Our running trail by the river is totally submerged; let’s see what’s left when the water recedes. The Roma camp is inhabitable at the moment as well. The current is pretty strong, so it is a bit of a miracle that the most structures still remain in place.

“Voie inondable”, indeed!
