We have friends visiting us from Finland. This is the second time they visit us in Grenoble, the first being quite soon after we moved here.
On Sunday (September 30, 2018) we drove over the Vercors range to Pont-en-Royans. The plan was to have picnic there, but soon clouds covered the sky and it was a bit chilly for a outdoor dining. We had lunch at a very crowded restaurant at Musée de l’eau (Museum of Water), without visiting the museum — maybe some day?!
We took a less mountainous route back. On our way we finally took a look at the ruins we had seen several times from the road when bicycling by. It turned out to be much more impressive than we thought; it was the ruins of Château de Beauvoir en Royans. The castle was constructed in the 13th century, and was abandoned in 1476. The ruins consists of three magnificent structures: part of the old wall, remains of a watchtower, and remains of the chapel, La Grande Chapelle.
When we were leaving the site the long-promised rain started.
