A l’aise Breizh: Huelgoat (Part III)

Then it was time to move on again. Our next destination was Quimper, which we chose for no particular reason other than it being smaller than the port town of Brest. On our way to Quimper we stopped by in the town of Huelgoat (Finistère) to hike in its mythical forest. What makes the forest so special are the large rounded moss-covered boulders in chaotic arrangements forming “fields” or “rivers” of rocks that have inspired many folk tales. The estimate is  that the rock field dates back to 340 million years.

We walked two trails: first the Circuit Pittoresque (1.7K) to the main site of boulders and the second Circuit Découvert (9.5K) that followed a quite idyllic canal, and returned to where the first trail started.

The Next post (Part IV) is about our two days in Quimper. Weather being what it was, wet and cold, we visited two museums: fine arts and pottery.
