Chamechaude (2082m)

Next Saturday’s ultra trail race Ut4M will take us to Chamechaude (not quite to the top but pretty high anyway), which at height of 2082m is the highest peak in the Chartreuse range. Today, we made a short practice hike all the way to the top. Because of the rain, the trail was becoming muddy and slippery, and the last steep section to the summit was a bit tricky. Unfortunately, there was not much scenery to enjoy because of the low hanging clouds. Now we just hope that it won’t rain much more during the coming week.

A quick break on the summit in a chilly wind. Two bird came to keep us company; they were clearly used to humans since they came quite close. Later we learned that they are Alpine choughs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpine_chough

Shaun the Sheep. Some parts of the trail were particularly challenging since the sheep had used it as their toilet.

Here is another view of the mountain (we climbed the right-side slope, which is from west).
And here is the final approach to the summit.
