Finally on skis …

… after two years, that is!

This short post is to share some pictures from our extempore skiing adventure in Vallée de la Clarée in Hautes-Alpes. A couple of weeks after we returned from our year-end vacation there, having not skied a single meter because of the snow situation, a lot of snow fell in the valley and the surrounding areas. We made quick plans to return to the valley just for a short vacation before the school holidays start. Luckily we found available and reasonably priced accommodation for five nights in the village of Le Rosier, one kilometer away from Les Alberts, where we have stayed the previous three time in the valley — a very convenient location regarding skiing since there was only a five-minute walk (or less) to the nearest (easy) tracks.

Since the weather on the first two days was rather bleak, we concentrated in our marathon training program, first the long run on Sunday and the medium run on Monday. Luckily it was not as slippery and icy as it was in December.

After that we had two days of mere sunshine! It was quite chilly in the morning — just above (or below) 0°C (out travel thermometer is not very accurate) — but by the time we reached the tracks — around 10h30 or 11h — it was already quite warm in the sun.

On both days we skied we chose to stay on a very flat loop called “Le Mas du Rosier” leaving right from the village. It was optimal for polishing the skating technique after a two-year break from skiing. Now all we can do is to hope that there will be more snowfall so that we can book another skiing vacation later this Spring after the school holidays.
